How to minimise the stress of moving home Part 3 – Settling in to your new home

Now you’re all moved in and the biggest part of the move is behind you, there are a few things you can do to help you adjust and enjoy your new home.

First night

Give yourself the time to get a good nights’ sleep on the first night in your new home. Yes, there are still loads of things to unpack and organise but if you have an early night to bed after a long tiring day, you will be refreshed and better able to tackle what needs to be done tomorrow.

Prioritise

Make a list of what matters the most to you.  The need to get back online and connected to the internet is usually high on most of our lists.  Keep on top of your new service providers or ones you have taken with you, to ensure your move is as seamless as possible.

Get back into the swing of things

Once you’ve arrived at your new home and unpacked, try and establish a normal routine as quickly as possible.

There may be a new school or job to get used to but if you try to eat and go to bed at the same time as usual, it will help everyone settle more quickly.

Get local

Don’t be shy about meeting your new neighbours, they are a great source of information for the local area and they can really help you integrate with the community.

Treat yourself

When you feel you are back on track and settled in your new home, give yourself a pat on the back.  Now is the time to treat yourself or your family to something special to acknowledge all the hard work you put in to organise your move and to celebrate the start of a new chapter!
