Spring has officially sprung here in Bristol. The days are getting longer, the temperature is getting a little warmer and flowers are beginning to bloom across the city we call home. So, it’s only natural we begin to step back out into our gardens and take stock of the space, thinking about how we can turn it into another area we can relax and spend time in all summer long. Not sure where to start with yours? Here are our top tips to help transform your garden into an inspiring and stylish outdoor space.
1.Get green fingered
First things first, clear out any debris and overgrown shrubbery from your garden. If you don’t tend to your garden all-year round you may be surprised with how quickly plants can get out of hand! Once you have a starting point, you can zone areas for laying fresh grass, and potting a few new flowerbeds to bring the space to life once more.
2.Add pops of colour
As well as a colourful selection of flowers, adding a vibrant piece of furniture to your garden can instantly brighten the space up. It can also be a great way to revive an old wooden or metal dining set – simply pick out some suitable paint in a colour of your choice and give your garden table and chairs a fresh coat.
3.Fire up the BBQ
It’s not just about the look of your garden, but the functionality too. This is the ideal time of year to set up your barbecue, so you’re prepared for a cookout with friends and family as soon as the sun comes out. Choose between gas or coal – or even dual-fuel – it really comes down to personal preference and how much room you have in your garden.
4.Make a cosy corner
If you like to host, think about planning your garden as you would your living room. You’ll want to create a comfortable seating area where you can spend quality time together. Cushions that are upholstered in UV and weatherproof materials are what to look out for – though it is still best to store these inside when not in use. British summers aren’t known for their high temperatures, so you may want to look at keeping a few blankets to hand and even adding a patio heater to your garden for those cooler evenings.
5.Be creative
Finally, have fun with your garden design! Flowers change seasonally and so your décor can too. Play around with masonry paint on your walls to create a decorative feature. You can also add colourful or decorative solar fairy lights around the garden, and even a couple of mirrors and outdoor rugs to really help bring your whole design together.
