Interview with the Owner: Chesterfield Road, St Andrews

Interview with the Owner: Chesterfield Road, St Andrews

With the bustling Gloucester Road just moments away, we chat with homeowners Lauren, an antique vintage jewellery seller, and Gaz, a musician, whose stylish two-bedroom apartment has been the perfect spot for them to enjoy the fruits that St Andrews has to offer.

“We met at University in Bristol and just fell in love with the city and have been here ever since”, explains Lauren.

“We always knew that we wanted to settle in the St Andrews area, as it really offers the best of everything the city has to offer. You can walk to Stokes Croft in a few minutes from the flat, and Gloucester Road is so close too. There are so many delicious little coffee shops and bakeries, as well as amazing independent shops on Gloucester Road, so we visit these quite often!”

Being so close to one of North Bristol’s most expansive parks also has its perks for the couple.

“St Andrews Park is just a road away, and it’s such a chilled green space for us. There’s always something happening around the area too. It’s pretty cool actually, there’s a folk band who live just over the back, and throughout lockdown would sit in their garden and play lovely chilled music, which was great to listen to on an evening. Being in such an elevated position on the top floor, you get some amazing views over the city, you can even see The Downs from here, and the sunsets from the rear of the property are just breathtaking.”

But the sunsets weren’t always so easy to see from the property, so Lauren and Gaz got to work renovating the flat to ensure they really got the space that they wanted.

“The flat needed a bit of love and modernisation, it was a little tired, and the decor was, let’s say interesting! It was all about working with what we had, and the biggest thing that we did was taking down a false ceiling in the hallway to open the space up. The skylight means that you get natural light flooding the flat at all points during the day. I have a business that sells antique vintage jewellery, and with us both currently working from home, the flat offers so much light and space”, says Lauren.

“We’d love to stay relatively local, perhaps Ashley Down or St Werburghs, as there’s a similar feel around those areas with the shops and cafes. We know that we are going to struggle to find a better location than this, especially with the floor place that the flat offers. We’ve absolutely loved our time on Chesterfield Road.”
