Distinctly retro décor and a plethora of vintage finds are what made this two-bedroom terraced house a home in Albert Place, Bedminster for homeowner Emma Hibbs.
Known for its vibrant and stylish Victorian properties, Bedminster is the unmistakable location of this creative and colourful home. Emma Hibbs, owner of Basement Seven Hairdressing, lovingly renovated and styled this three-storey, two-bedroom terraced house on Albert Place alongside her partner Adam. ‘I’ve collected the pieces within this property over the past 25 years,’ explains Emma. ‘I’m a bit of a magpie in that sense, and there are some great vintage shops around the area.’
The couple’s passion for interior design is apparent as you move through the property. Retro décor is present throughout, and continues down into the basement, which has been converted into Emma’s hairdressing salon. ‘Having worked in salons where you rent a chair before, it was really important to me to create a space that was family friendly, where people can come and feel relaxed, with a more personal experience,’ says Emma. ‘My clients are able to treat the place as their own, so they can really relax and even bring their children if they need.’
With a move away from Bedminster to Stroud on the horizon, Emma said the community feel that the local area has provided over the past nine years is something that they will miss. ‘We’re moving towards Stroud to be closer to other family members, but we will certainly miss this vibrant, friendly place we’ve called home.’
For herself and her family, the nearby green spaces hold fond memories. ‘They have been perfect for our family as we’ve grown,’ says Emma. ‘There is a green just outside of the South Bristol Methodist Church across from the house, and both South Street and Dame Kelly parks are only a short walk away. In fact, one of our favourite aspects of living here has been the luxury of having everything within a few minutes' walk.’
Popular North Street is a stone’s throw away from Albert Place, where Bedminster’s strong sense of community can really be seen. ‘The neighbourhood is lovely, and feels like it’s one step ahead – certainly in terms of eco-awareness and managing plastic pollution,’ says Emma.
