With Wapping Wharf just a short stroll away, we speak with homeowners Lauren and Joey about their love for the Arnos Vale area, and their time at the beautiful, bright Paintworks development.
Having lived in one of the flats overlooking the water, and then moving into a larger three bedroom terrace home in the Paintworks development, Lauren, who works in travel, knew that this area of Bristol was somewhere she and her partner, Joey, who works in Cheltenham in women’s fashion, wanted to be.
“For us, what originally drove us to the area was the location. I worked in the city centre and Joey works in Cheltenham, so the two-kilometre cycle down the cycle path to Temple Meads meant a super easy commute for both us of. When we lived in the flat, by the water was such a peaceful place to live, something that you don’t usually get with an inner-city location. Also, it’s not just your bog-standard development, it’s a pretty cool place to be, with the focus on green living, for example, there are no cars on the roads around the development.”
It can sometimes be tricky with new builds to bring your own style, but the warm tones and pops of colour around their home create a bright, open, practical space for them both, and their cats, Maki and Nori.
“Joey hates clutter, so we knew that we wanted clean living, but also something with a bit of character, so the Scandinavian design really suits both our styles. We love a neutral colour palette, with just a few statement colours here and there.”
The couple also loves the sense of community around the development, and with their neighbours.
“It’s quite a varied community here, with most of our neighbours being young professionals or families, and we’ve been so lucky, the whole street is so friendly. I walk my neighbour’s dog three times a week, so there’s a job ready to inherit for the new owners!”
Lauren and Joey’s home boasts a beautiful sunny garden, which along with the delicious food options at Wapping Wharf and the surrounding green spaces, will be just some of the things that they will both miss with a move to Cheltenham on the cards.
“Joey is a really keen cyclist, and the Bristol the Bath cycle path is so easy to jump on from here, and there are some great walks around the area. We walk down to Wapping Wharf quite a lot, and we will absolutely miss Cargo Cantina, as well as Bocabar and the walks around Arnos Vale, finished with a coffee at Cleverchefs.
There’s also an amazing M&S across the bridge towards Sparke Evans Park, so we will miss popping there on a Friday night for a bottle of wine to share in the garden!”
