Little Pink Nest
Off a side road next to Greville Smyth Park, in Ashton Gate you will find a row of cheerfully coloured homes, one has a particularly Pinkish hue. We get a sit down with it's owner.
How would you describe your style?
I would say that my style is best described as traditional with a modern twist. We are really lucky to live in a period home, and it was really important to us when considering any changes that we maintain the gorgeous original features. From the fireplaces to the tiles and panelling, we’ve made sure that these timeless features really stand out, which I think works great alongside the modern touches we’ve created using contemporary colours and furnishings.
Where do you find inspiration?
Pinterest and Instagram are great sources of inspiration for me, and Bristol has some amazing home accounts showcasing a real variety of styles. I find that so many people, especially in Bristol, can be so creative with different budgets and styles, so I love exploring these on such interactive platforms. But, for me, I get most of my inspiration from seeing things I find visually pleasing, for example, a piece of art, photography, architecture or even pieces from the natural world, I even create my own pieces, one of which is hanging in our kitchen. You’ll find lots of houseplants dotted around the house, and I love to pop them on different levels, especially around the kitchen, I find it really adds depth to the room. The front of the house is a lovely pastel pink, which is one of my favourite things about the house (hence the insta handle!) so for me, I love to bring that colour into the house to really pay tribute to our home.

How do you accessorise?
I love mixing modern and vintage pieces, and flowers and plants! It’s really important to me that my accessories have a function! I use lots of candles and storage bowls and boxes, which not only look great but also serve a purpose and hide any mess! We’ve been able to have some fun in the kids’ rooms too, I love the wallpapered ceiling and bright orange industrial light in one of the rooms, as well as the modern wall hangings against the feature fireplace backdrop. Another thing that I like to do is create feature walls using block colours, patterns and neon lights. Throughout our hallway we have a sort of arch pattern running through, which works so well against the contrasting tiling on the floor. We’ve also recently installed a gorgeous, bright neon sign in the kitchen which really stands out against the brick slip wall background. Brick slip is a really clever, specially manufactured tile, which when installed has the appearance, colour and texture of a real clay brick wall,

What’s your favourite room?
As I am branching out and in the process of starting up my own interior design business, it’s essential for me that each room works for each individual’s needs. For me, our kitchen is our hub. It is where we spend lots of time with family and friends and it’s become such a sociable space that’s also functional. The original space just would not have worked for what we needed, and so it was a big, but easy decision for us to extend. We’ve left the exposed beams on show, and with the brick feature wall, it really ties in with the heritage of the house with modern touches. We love cooking and entertaining, and the open plan space has totally changed the way we live here.
