Modernist Home, Portishead - Smith Maloney Hillier Architects
It's very much like dealing with a piece of abstract art. The proportion of windows and doors is absolutely critical in terms of their relationship to one another.
With one clear vision from the client, and an even clearer view out to the Bristol Channel, architects Smith Maloney Hillier had some very tight parameters to their brief.
The whole orientation of the house and the planning for its design came from the one need to capitalise on its incredible location. However the original orientation of the home didn't take best advantage of this. Clean lines, and reduced palette of materials all aid in the transformation from tired bungalow, to white modernist cube.
Despite the great British weather working against us on shoot day - we instantly got a feeling of light and space and context when you enter the home. Expertly crafted connections through spaces and openings to frame viewpoints all meticulously planned by the Ashley Smith and his team.
